This page sums up what Inkling keeps, for how long, and what you can remove or take away yourself; the Privacy notice is the full statement and wins wherever the two differ.

The short version

In the Privacy notice’s own words: “Buildersoft does not sell your personal data or use your questions to train its own general-purpose model.”

Alongside that:

  • Inkling does not use advertising cookies, advertising identifiers or third-party behavioural advertising trackers.
  • Product news is opt-in, and Inkling’s emails record no opens and no clicks. See Emails Inkling sends.
  • Inkling never names the model behind an answer. The stamp shows a tier instead: Frontier tier or Standard tier.

What Inkling reads in your notes

  • Inkling reads a note only when you ask it to: with one of the Inkling actions beside it, on a selection, or by handing it a todo.
  • Asking about a note sends nothing to a search provider. If the note doesn’t hold the answer and you choose Ask the web, only your question is sent, as an ordinary question.
  • Finding sources for a note, and handing a todo to Inkling, do search the web. Short search terms written from the note, which can repeat its words, go to the search provider; the note itself does not.
  • Handing a todo to Inkling sends the todo, the note’s title and the part of the note around the todo, not the whole note.

Notes and todosUntil you delete them, on every plan
Shared pagesUntil you unpublish them, delete the discussion they came from or delete your account, or until Buildersoft takes one down under the Terms

Your accountUntil you delete it

What you can do yourself

  • Delete a discussion. Pages you shared from it are taken down too. See Your discussions.
  • Delete a note. It goes straight away, with its todos and the passages, summaries and sources saved in it.
  • Unpublish a shared page. See Manage shared pages.
  • Turn off product news and personalisation. Clear the checkbox under Profiling and marketing in Settings › Account.
  • Take a copy. Use Download Markdown or Print on a note, and Export PDF on a discussion.
  • Delete your account. See Delete your account.

Ask for anything else

There is no button that downloads all your data at once. For a copy of your data, a correction (a new email address, for example) or anything else your privacy rights cover:

  1. Open Contact.
  2. Under What would you like to discuss?, check that Privacy request is chosen.
  3. Say what you need and press Send message.

Buildersoft may ask for enough information to check that the request is about you. The Privacy notice explains how requests are handled.

Good to know

  • In your browser, Inkling keeps your sign-in, your theme, which status notices you have dismissed and, briefly, a question waiting to be asked after you sign in. These are needed for the service you asked for.
  • Database backups age out on their own schedule: a copy in a backup goes when that backup is replaced.
  • The full documents are the Privacy notice and the Terms, both linked as Privacy and Terms in the footer of the home page. What this covers explains the one optional permission.
